2011 Barolo, Part 2 – Late Releases (Dec 2015)

The 2011 Barolo Bricco Boschis is super-finessed and silky in the glass. Freshly cut flowers, rose petal, mint and cinnamon all give the 2011 an attractive upper register. The 2011 is a bit forward, which, along with its mid-weight structure, suggests it is best enjoyed over the next decade or so.

2010 and 2009 Southern Rhone Wines (Jan 2012)

(30% each of grenache and mourvedre and 10% each of counoise and syrah, with the balance spread across the other nine permitted varieties): Bright ruby. Perfumed, expressive aromas of red and dark berry preserves, smoky herbs and lavender, with a touch of licorice adding depth. Fleshy and supple in texture, offering intense black raspberry and…

2017 Barolo: Here We Go Again… (Feb 2021)

The Barolo Cannubi is absolutely gorgeous in 2017. Hot and brutally dry conditions notwithstanding, the Cannubi is creamy and sensual in the glass, with impeccable balance, soft, racy edges and tons of allure. It is easily one of the most sensual, compelling Barolos of the year. Ripe dark red/purplish fruit, spice, mint and cedar meld…

2011 Red Burgundy: Three Sides of a Coin (Mar 2014)

The 2011 Griotte-Chambertin is wonderfully lifted and perfumed in the glass, reflecting the true essence of Griotte. Here the flavors and textures inhabit an upper register of pure beauty. Sweet floral notes are layered into a finish of simply extraordinary finesse.

2011 Red Burgundies (Mar 2014)

Bright medium red. Enticing, ethereal aromas of urgent crushed berries, flowers and medicinal herbs. Shows less volume than the 2012 version but this is silky and balanced, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the smoky red and black fruit flavors. This should evolve gracefully and gain in sweetness and complexity with bottle age. Dugat told…

The 2012 Red Burgundies from Bottle (Mar 2015)

Bright, dark red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and menthol hint at a liqueur-like ripeness. Fat and plush on entry, then minerally in the middle, showing a good bit of smoky oak. The oak tannins give the finish a stricter quality than the village wine, but the persistent fruit spreads out impressively to coat the…
