2007, 2006 and 2005 Bordeaux (May 2008)

(70% cabernet sauvignon and 30% merlot) Good ruby-red. Ripe aromas of currant, tobacco, cedar and chocolate. Supple, sweet and easygoing, with good fleshy texture but modest intensity and thrust to the dark fruit, chocolate, menthol and cedar flavors. Finishes with slightly dry tannins and a rather soft structure.

A Century of Bordeaux: The Twos (Sep 2022)

The 2012 Palmer has a more backward bouquet than the 2008 Alter Ego, quite Pauillac-like in style with graphite infused black fruit. Commendable freshness and focus, though not powerful in style. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, fine acidity, silky smooth with a clean and precise finish; white pepper and tobacco linger on the…

2012 Bordeaux: Messages in a Bottle (Jan 2016)

The 2012 Palmer is silky, voluptuous and beautifully layered in the glass. Black cherry, plum, mocha, bittersweet chocolate and dark spices flesh out in a decidedly opulent, racy Palmer built on pure texture. Silky, tannins round out the polished, suave finish. The 2012s at Palmer are made from unusually low yields of around 28 hectoliters per…

Bordeaux 2012: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (May 2013)

Deep inky-purple. Enticing perfume of blackberry, spices and violet. Then rich, dense and suave on the palate, offering fleshy flavors of crushed blackberry, dark plum, licorice, mocha and black pepper. This sweet, generous, fine-grained wine is perked up by insidious peppery acidity. The finish is long and scented, with a suggestion of slightly unripe tannins…

2006, 2005 and 2004 Bordeaux (May 2007)

Red-ruby. Reticent aromas of dark berries, spices, licorice and menthol. Then almost shockingly supple, ripe and layered, with unexpected fullness and a sweet, gentle character. This is harmonious from the outset. Not at all a powerful style, but silky and suave. And nicely sweet on the back end, with the tannins arriving late.

What Nectar!! Suduiraut 1899-2015 (March 2019)

The 1989 Suduiraut has always shown better than the 1990. The bouquet is quite vivacious with quince and frangipane, hints of pear and crème brûlée, certainly responding to aeration. The palate has similar weight and texture to the 1990 although, there is slightly more tension here with orange rind and marmalade imparting Barsac-like notes towards…
