Bordeaux 2020 – The Southwold Tasting (Nov 2024)

The 2020 Ausone has a very crisp and precise bouquet, with a mixture of red and black fruit, crushed stone, black truffle and cedar that gains intensity in the glass. Medium in body, the palate is composed and refined with fine tannins. A taut yet brilliantly defined, pixelated finish goes on and on and on….

2010 Red Burgundies (Mar 2013)

Good medium red. Very fresh aromas and flavors of small wild red berries, dried flowers, smoke and game. Rich and voluminous but sappy and not at all heavy; really saturates the mouth with flavor and builds and echoes on the back end. The tannins are fine and even. A beauty.

2006 and 2005 Red Burgundies (Mar 2008)

Good deep red. Aromas of dark raspberry, blood orange and spicy oak. Dense, supple and sappy, with terrific stuffing and structure for a village wine. Finishes impressively long and sweet, with dusty, ripe tannins. An uncommonly good village wine.

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Bright full ruby. Floral blackberry, raspberry, licorice, lead pencil and a faint herbal note on the nose. Juicy, spicy and precise, offering good sweetness to its red and dark fruit flavors. Finishes fresh, focused and long, with very good grip and a white pepper nuance.

2011 Bordeaux from the Bottle (Jul 2014)

Inky ruby. Exotic, inviting scents of black cherry, cassis, orange zest, coffee and smoky underbrush. Fat, sweet and rich, with lively acidity giving noteworthy lift to its rich dark fruit, pepper and cocoa flavors. Wonderfully delineated Saint-Julien wine with plenty of fleshy substance but more than enough energy to keep it from being weighed down;…
